About Broomfield Police Patrol Division

Patrol Vehicle
Broomfield’s Patrol Division is the backbone of the Police Department. Patrol officers are first responders to emergencies. Their sharp eyes and professional actions, together with their collective work with community members on neighborhood problems, help maintain the quality of life that Broomfield residents enjoy.
There are three commanders, 6 sergeants, and 45 officers assigned to the patrol functions.  Each Watch has two teams of officers consisting of a sergeant and seven or eight officers depending on the shift.  Patrol officers are first responders to emergencies. Their sharp eyes and professional actions, together with their collective work with community members on neighborhood problems, help maintain the quality of life that Broomfield residents enjoy.

Broomfield Police officers responded to over 90,000 calls for service in 2016, with the Patrol Division handling the majority of those calls. Calls for service include requests from our citizens for assistance as well as officer-initiated activity. The requests can be for a wide variety of reasons, including reports of suspicious people, neighborhood problems, or to report a crime. Officer initiated activities encompass the community-oriented policing philosophy that governs the Department’s day-to-day activities, a couple of examples include, stopping in the park to hand out sticker badges to kids or to assist a stranded motorist.

Although the numbers of calls for service continue to increase over the years, the rate of crime in Broomfield continues to remain low. This can be attributed to our citizens who, in many cases, are calling the police for help before a crime occurs and using services in true partnership with the police.
