Video Game Animation 1 (Scratch 2.0)

Students will learn to create a video game world, using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by MIT. Newsmaker Weather Reporter

Have you ever seen a weather forecast on television and wanted to do it yourself? Now you can as with Weather Reporter you can create and record your own broadcast. Working in teams, students will research, write and perform their scripts using webcams and fantastic software, NewsMaker. Build Your Own Website

Create your own fanzine website. What is your interest? Music? Fashion? Travel? Science? Build a personal website to share your thoughts, fun images, videos, music and more. Beginning Game Design-Get Coding

Class Listings
Students will begin learning basic coding skills divided into two monkey-themed skill sets: Chimp and Gibbon. Students will begin with basic movement commands then progress to actions such as "when clicked" and sounds. More advanced skills such as "collision detection" and 'If/Else" action commands will also be covered. Students will be asked to create coding scenes at the end of each session that covers skills learned in that particular session as well as previous sessions. The final project will be a game created and presented to friends and family via a shareable link. Age: 6–8 years Location: BCC


Purple Mash I.T. Up

Imagine a world where everything is created by you! What do you consider a treasure: diamonds or candy? Technology and design are not just for the big kids. In our Purple Mash Up Game Design class, the sky, the hero, the treasure, even the bad guys are all created by your child. Robot Turtles, BeeBot & Tomy Techno


Here comes BeeBot again, our cute bumble bee robot and software with some new friends, Robot Turtles! We use an innovative new board game: Robot Turtles and an interactive e-book with the BeeBot robots to bring to preschoolers a robot adventure AND introduce them to the basic concepts of programming, all while playing, counting, working together and giggling. Students will also work with Tomy Technoblocks Robots, as they snap, beep, and walk through many designs and adventures!

Intro to Mindstorms Robotics (EV3/NXT)


Missions are NOT Impossible when you use LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Robotics. Students will program robots to use a variety of sensors, motors and block-based programming to complete programming challenges they are given and challenges they create. Explore the new EV3 medium motor, gyro sensor, and castor wheel. Learn to apply EV3 programming to older NXT robots also. If you have an older NXT or newer EV3 Mindstorms kit, or are considering one, this is the class for you.

Engineering with Duplo Tubes


Young children love to build! In this unique class they learn to do just that, using both virtual and concrete materials. Jr Engineering


Explore basic engineering concepts while building simple machines from LEGO® Dacta kits. A different kit is used for each lesson, developing the concepts of structures and forces, levers, wheels and axles, gears and pulleys through construction of Lego® plans. 'Kids collaborate in teams of 2, as they exercise their understanding with creative challenges to solve. Projects include exploration of lever classes, a rotating sign, cars, even a dinosaur and amusement park ride! Let’s build with LEGO®.

Elementary Engineering


This class is appropriate for the young engineer, ages 9 and older and is a recommended first class for those students who wish to enroll in LEGO® Engineering & Robotics later in the summer. Robotics Discovery

Maker's Workshop with Arduino Boards & SparkFun


Make motors spin, LED’s blink, and music play, all using an Arduino board connected to your computer. This course of interactive electronics will let you experiment with embedded systems, physical computing and programming. You’ll be introduced to the world of prototyping circuits using resistors, potentiometers, photo-resistors, flex sensors, servos and piezoelectric buzzers while exploring programming concepts. It’s time to ignite the world of physical computing! Additional activities may include making your own light up greeting cards, sewn light up fabrics and crafts! Rockets


Kids will get to research, design, build, paint, and take home their own rockets! These rockets are totally safe, water-propelled and shoot 300-500 feet in the air. Parents, relatives and friends join us on launch day to see the great artwork, paint designs and help us count down! We will explore the topic of space while working in three different artistic media! We will draw space ships and aliens using color pencils, learn cartoon techniques for our aliens and their ships using Sharpies™ and markers, and then complete one large space piece using pastels. Please wear an old shirt or a smock to class on the second day and on last day.
