2006 International Codes Adoption

The City and County of Broomfield has adopted the 2006 International Codes ® effective February 28, 2008.  Building codes are updated every three years through an open consensus process to adapt to changing technology, current methods of construction, and in reaction to situations where codes may have failed to protect the public in the past.  Building inspection and plan review staff must constantly update their code knowledge and assist builders in meeting the most recent edition of these national codes, as adopted by the City and County of Broomfield.  Amendments are made to the published codes in order to address Broomfield's unique conditions, philosophies, and policies.  Linked below are brief summaries compiled of some of the more important and farthest reaching changes in the building codes between the 2003 and the 2006 editions:

The City and County of Broomfield will be enforcing the 2008 NEC for all permits issued August 1, 2008 and later to coincide with the State of Colorado's effective date for this code.  See handout below for residential electrical updates!
