Emissions Testing
All vehicles registered in the Emissions Program Area are required to comply with emissions standards.
Gasoline Powered Vehicles
- New model year vehicles receive a four (4) year exemption from emissions testing.
- 1982 and newer vehicles require an Enhanced Emissions Test every two (2) years to be performed at an Air Care Colorado Testing station. Cost for the Enhanced Test is $25.00.
- 1981 and older vehicles require a Basic
Emissions Test every year. The emissions test can be done at Air Care
Colorado stations, or at Licensed Independent stations. The cost for a
Basic Emissions Test is $15.00. For Independent Testing Locations, call

Diesel Powered Vehicles
- New model year vehicles receive a two (2) year exemption from emissions testing.
- Diesel opacity testing is done every year. For testing centers, click on the link below.
