Insurance Information The State of Colorado contracts with a provider to develop and maintain a database of insured vehicles. Any insurance company that writes vehicle liability policies in Colorado is required to report new policy holders and cancelled policies at least monthly to the provider. The County Clerk and Recorder Offices are required to verify that each vehicle registered (passenger, truck, motor home, bus, and motorcycle) has complying automobile insurance in effect at the time of registration. These requirements are to ensure that Colorado motorists comply with mandatory auto insurance laws. The intent is to reduce the rising number of uninsured drivers and vehicles in Colorado.
