Ad Hoc Solid Waste Task Force
Information page

·         The Task Force's March 2, 2005 recommendation was that:

o        Broomfield contract with multiple trash haulers by districts for service in the community;

o        Curbside recycling be offered to all residents as a part of the base fee;

o        Separate seasonal yard waste collection be offered to all residents as part of the base fee;

o       Bulky item collection be offered;

o        A "Volume Based Collection" fee program be implemented; and,

o        A recycling goal of 30 % in three years be established.

·         The City Council conducted a Study Session on May 17, 2005.  At the Study Session the City Council requested that five general options regarding solid waste collection be prepared for their discussion.  The requested options are:

o        The March 2, 2005, recommendation prepared by the Ad Hoc Solid Waste Task Force;

o        That Broomfield enact recycling goals for private haulers to meet, with triggers for actions to increase recycling if the established recycling goals are not met;

o        That Broomfield contract with one hauler, or that Broomfield provide the collection service itself, to provide curbside recycling collection to all households throughout the community;

o       That Broomfield require through the hauler licensing program that all haulers provide curbside recycling collection to all households they serve; or

o       That Broomfield make no modifications to the trash collection and recycling programs.

It is expected that the City Council will discuss these option at some time in the near future.
