TO ALL PERSONS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF INSURANCE:

If you were insured on the date and time you received your ticket, this charge may be dismissed by the City Attorney.

You will need to provide a letter from your insurance company which states specifically that you were insured on the date and time of the ticket while driving the vehicle you were operating when you were ticketed.  The letter MUST be on insurance company letterhead and signed by an agent or representative of the company.

The City attorney’s office is not able to accept a copy of your insurance card, policy, statement or bill.  You MUST obtain a letter.

Example of a letter which meets the requirements is:

INSURANCE COMPANY LETTERHEAD

This letter is to confirm that _________________(your name)_____________ was insured while driving________(specific vehicle listed on the ticket)____________ on

_________(date and time of the ticket)_______________________, which is the date and time he/she received the ticket.  This insurance met the State of Colorado requirements for liability coverage.

It is your responsibility to bring this letter with you to Court on your first appearance date.

If you are not able to have this letter for your first appearance on your ticket, you may request a short (approximately 10 days) continuance to contact your agent so that you can obtain this letter.
