The 10-year-old Broomfield Recycling Center needed a facelift and during a short closure in November
2009, several modifications and improvements were made. These included:
Replacement of wooden stairs and platforms with new metal ones
Addition of an ADA- (Americans with Disabilities) accessible ramp
Installation of a second compactor to simplify sorting and reduce Broomfield's carbon footprint
General cleaning
New signage
The Broomfield Recycling Center is a service provided for Broomfield residents
only. The center is now
being managed by Broomfield's Public Works Department. Handy take-home reference cards are available at the front of the bins
to help patrons become familiar with the new sorting guidelines. Come by and visit the new and improved center!

Trash Collection/Curbside Recycling
The City & County of Broomfield does not provide trash collection service. Trash removal is contracted on an
individual basis with private solid waste companies. Most of the trash haulers offer some level of curbside recycling.
Services, prices, and pick-up days vary depending on the hauler you choose. Individuals may select a hauler from the
list of the Licensed Trash companies in Broomfield. For
more information, contact Community Assistance at 303.438.6390.
If you live within a homeowners' association-regulated area, contact your association
or management company for
more information on trash removal.
In addition to the curbside recycling opportunity provided by the trash hauling services, the City & County
of Broomfield offers several supplemental recycling programs for the items
below.
This popular program is run by Broomfield's Park Services
division and is co-located within the recycling drop-off center at 225
Commerce Street. The tree limb yard is located just behind the
recycling bins on the north.
HOURS OF OPERATION: Due to space constraints with the small
drop-off yard, the tree-limb drop-off is open and staffed on
Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The site
will be CLOSED at all other times. This schedule is in effect year-round.
Only tree branches and shrub branches will be accepted. Please do not
bring trash, sod, grass clippings or other landscape debris
including lumber and fence materials. Absolutely no wire, nails or metal
of any kind is allowed due to potential damage to the tub grinder and risk to the
operators. Branches more than 18 inches in diameter must be cut
into 4-foot. lengths.
This program is available to
Broomfield Residents only-NO contractors or non-residents; proof of
residency will be required at the gate. The sight is monitored
24 hours by surveillance camera, and violators will be prosecuted for
illegal dumping under section 8.04.020 of the Broomfield Municipal
Code.
Free mulch is available year round at the Broomfield Recycling
Center. Bring your shovel and take as much as you need—there is no
limit!
For more information, call Park Services at 303.464.5651 or the
Recycling Center at 303.404.2839.
This program is typically provided in
October/November of each year. Watch the website in 2010 for dates
of operation!
Waste Oil Recycling Program
Do you change your own motor oil? Broomfield residents can participate in Broomfield's
Waste Oil Recycling program operated by the Public
Works Fleet Maintenance Division. This year-round program is located at the Norman Smith Service Center at 3001 W. 124th
Avenue. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of
each month. (If the first Saturday is a holiday, the collection will take place on the second Saturday instead.) For more
information, call Fleet Maintenance at 303.438.6336.
Cooking Oil Recycling!
The Waste Motor Oil Collection Program has expanded to include a separate drop-off for the
collection and
recycling of cooking oil. The new cooking oil recycling program will be co-located with the waste motor oil drop-site
at the Norman Smith Service Center, 3001 West 124th Avenue (just
east of Lowell Blvd.) Cooking oil should be placed in a plastic jug with a lid for transport.
It will be necessary for those bringing oil to take back their empty containers for recycling or disposal. Cooking oil
should not be mixed with any other liquid including used motor oil, which will continue to be accepted for recycling at
the same times and location. If the two oils are mixed, it will render them both non-recyclable.
For more information, please call the Environmental Services Division at 303.438.6329.
There are two options for Broomfield residents for proper disposal of Household Hazardous Waste.
Broomfield typically provides two local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off events per year—one event in the
spring and a second event in the fall. Please watch the Broomfield Enterprise in April and September for advertising
of these events or check the
Current Events Calendar. Household waste only please; by law, no business, commercial,
industrial or agricultural waste can be accepted. Participants will be asked for proof of residency and asked to sign a
certification that the wastes they bring are strictly household waste.
Can't wait for the next local HHW drop-off event? Broomfield also participates in the regional Boulder County HHW
Program. The program operates a permanent facility in Boulder that is open year-round. See the
Boulder County Household Hazardous Waste
Program for more details. The facility is located at 5880 Butte Mill Road, Boulder (half a mile east of 55th Street and
Valmont Road, inside the Western Disposal Transfer Station). The HHW Hotline for this year-round program is 303.441.4800.
This brochure from Boulder County has a map and more information on the year-round program
page 1,
page 2).
The City and County of Broomfield offers a large item curbside
pickup every spring for residents to dispose of
non-hazardous items that the trash haulers do not normally take at
the curb. This is a one-day event offered once a year--there will be no drop-off event.

The leading cell phone companies and retailers have partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the
states to answer the call for easy cell phone recycling. Recycling just one million cell phones reduces greenhouse
gas emissions equal to taking 1,368 cars off the road for a year. The partners in this year-long national campaign
include AT&T, Best Buy, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, Office Depot, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Sprint, Staples, and
T-Mobile. Contact your cell phone provider to know how and where to recycle your used cell phone.
