The task force used the
seventh
meeting as a work session.
To begin, the group discussed the issue of overlap with the education
group and rest of the groups and how to tackle the education issues.
Second, Meghan Bernard from the
University
of
Colorado Denver presented the final climate
action presentation on the Materials and Waste section, discussing green
concrete, pay-as-you-throw and electronic waste.
Kathy Schnoor summarized the work done on
Broomfield’s
recycling center over the past couple weeks.
Finally, the task force broke into their groups to discuss goals,
rationales, policies/strategies, and action steps in order to prepare
for the December 10 meeting.

Due to work conflicts, Mark Kuhl notified the task force that he
resigned from his membership.

On December 10, each group will
report out on their goals, rationales, policies/strategies, and action
steps.

– Overlap Coverage, Gaps and Targets
Derek instructed the task force to
look at each of the groups and identify any overlap areas that needed to
be addressed. The education
group faced the most obvious overlap with all the other groups.
To address this overlap, the education group requested the other
group bring information to them on what they want the public to be aware
of and the education group would develop a way to distribute that
information.

- Materials Climate Action Plan – Meghan Bernard, UCD Graduate Student
Meghan Bernard presented the final
climate action plan programs in the materials and waste section.
The three programs discussed were green concrete using fly ash,
pay-as-you-throw, and electronic waste.

– Summary on Recycling Center Changes – Kathy Schnoor
Kathy Schnoor gave a summary of
the changes that were made to the
Broomfield
recycling center this past week.
These changes include an a chute added to the compactor for easy
disposal, an additional ramp and compactor, and larger signs to direct
people to the correct recycling bins.
Announcement: Last week, Xcel
conducted an energy audit class, which provided tips for homeowners to
make low-cost and effective improvements to their home to reduce energy
consumption. Only three
people showed up yet they expressed the class had a lot of value for
other residents. The
education group wanted to look at ways to get the word out about these
programs more effectively in the future.

The task force broke into work
groups to discuss their assignments for the December 10 meeting.
