Public Health and Environment Division Public Health Clinics and Nursing Programs Health Care Programs for Children with Special Needs This program provides services for any child with
special needs up to age 21. Special needs include but are not limited to hearing and vision
impaired, neurological, cardiac, or urological problems, autism, birth defects,
and orthopedic issues. A team of health and social service professionals
assists clients and their families to ensure they receive the care they need.
This program receives funding through State, Federal and local sources, and is
administratively managed through the Jefferson County Department of Health and
Environment. Registered nurses conduct home visits and case management to care for children with special needs and their families and high risk families. Broomfield HHS has a contract for home visits to first time moms Communicable Disease Investigations The Public Health and Environment Division's Environmental Health Services and Nursing Units work collaboratively in the surveillance, prevention, and control of diseases that have the potential of infecting a large number of citizens. The Immunization Clinic provides vaccinations to Broomfield children and adults, community resources to families, and referrals to other health and social service agencies. This program also provides medial support and technical training for professionals and volunteers during emergency and disaster situations. Detailed information on the various types of vaccines offered can be obtained from the Public Health Division. The primary goal of the Immunization clinic is to meet the Colorado Board of Health requirements for minimum immunization compliance with the school entry immunization law. To attend school, a student must have an age-appropriate certificate of immunization. Children's immunizations include hepatitis B, DTaP, tetanus, polio, Hib, MMR, varicella (chicken pox), and pneumoccocal conjugate. While children's vaccines are free, there is an administrative fee of $14 per shot. Services will not be denied due to an inability to pay for any childhood vaccine required by Colorado State Law. Persons with Medicaid, private insurance, or no insurance are welcome, but should check with their health plan as to where they can get these shots. The immunization clinic is funded in part by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. The Immunization clinic is open Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please call 720-887-2220 for an appointment. The Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and
Treatment (EPSDT) Program is the child health component of Medicaid. It is
required in every state and is designed to improve the health of low-income
children by enhancing access and
appropriate utilization of primary and preventive health care for Medicaid-eligible families and children. The Reproductive Health clinic provides health care to women during their reproductive years. Services include annual health exams and screenings, contraceptive information and supplies, screening for sexually transmitted infections and HIV, health education and counseling, pregnancy testing, basic infertility services, and referrals to other health and social services. This program receives funding through Title X Federal grants, State, local and patient fees and donations. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on income. All services are confidential. Broomfield HHS Travel Clinic will provide information about illnesses and health concerns to ensure a safe and healthy trip whether traveling in the United States or abroad. Travelers are advised to contact the Travel Clinic three weeks before departure and provide their travel itinerary. A public health nurse will discuss tips on food, water, safety, suggested health supplies to pack and other tips. Information will be provided about suggested immunizations for the travel destination. Allow 72 hours to order desired vaccines. Fees for immunizations and travel consultation will be charged. Group travel consultations are also available.
