Public Health and Environment Division Environmental Health Services Environmental Health Services provides many programs addressing various environmental issues that impact the health of Broomfield's population. Through public education and enforcement of State laws, Environmental Health Services monitors the three main elements of the environment: the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. Inspections Environmental Health Specialists provide inspections to: commercial child care facilities, individual septic system, retail food establishments and public swimming pools to ensure safe and healthy
environments. Zoonosis / Vector
Program Diseases that
can be transmitted from animal to man are tracked and monitored by Environmental Health staff. Examples of diseases that are spread through animal vectors include
Hantavirus, Lyme Disease, Colorado Tick Fever, Rabies, the Plague and West Nile Virus. Disease Control / Epidemiology Environmental Health Services works in collaboration with the Division's Indoor
and Outdoor Air Quality Indoor air
quality issues such as those concerning mold problems and radon are investigated
and education on air quality issues is provided. Outdoor air quality
sources are inspected to assure they are in compliance with the Clean Air Act.
Hazardous
Waste Environmental Health Specialists investigate complaints regarding hazardous
materials, drug (methamphetamine) labs and respond, as part of a City and County team of first responders, to hazardous waste spills and environmental crimes.
Individual
Sewage Disposal Systems In conjunction with the Broomfield Public Works Department, HHS Environmental
Health Specialists review applications and authorize permits for individual sewage disposal systems, review construction plans and designs, inspect site and system
installation, and handle septic system complaints. Please Call 720-887-2220 for information on how to obtain a septic permit.
Oil and Gas Well Remediation Reviews Environmental Health Specialists assist other City and
