Health Promotions

Health Promotions works on an ongoing basis to assess Broomfield’s health needs in order to effectively improve the community’s health and ensure the benefits of health are available to all.  Health Promotions also provides initiatives targeted to individuals, groups, and communities that enhance awareness, change behavior, and create environments that are conducive to promoting good health, preventing disease, and reducing the risk of unintentional injury.

Nutrition Programs

A variety of nutrition classes and workshops for community members of all ages are provided by Health Promotions.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides supplemental foods, nutrition counseling, and referrals to other health and social services for low-income pregnant, postpartum and breast-feeding women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk and who meet eligibility requirements.  This program receives funding from the United State Department of Agriculture.

Senior Programs

Healthy Hearts

Healthy Hearts is a program sponsored by the Broomfield Community Center for seniors.  Certified nutritionists from HHS provide consultation and support to persons enrolled in this program. The program is not exclusively for senior citizens.  Seniors in the Healthy Hearts program enjoy a healthy lunch two times monthly, and two times a week they meet at the Paul Derda Recreation Center for an hour of exercise. The Healthy Hearts program has grant funds which pays a portion of the facility fee for the recreation center, thereby the seniors pay a greatly reduced price to participate in the program activities. For additional information on this program, please visit the Broomfield HHS Senior Services Division at http://www.broomfield.org/senior/healthyhearts.shtml.

Senior Fall Prevention

The Senior Fall Prevention program for Broomfield citizens over the age of 65 is aimed at reducing the number of falls experienced in the home and community. Staff provide in-home assessments for seniors. The program budget includes funds to purchase and install safety equipment, such as shower bars, that ensure a safe environment.

Car Seat Safety

HHS staff are certified to check and install car seats. HHS participates in and sponsors numerous car seat safety programs throughout the year.

Colorado on the Move in Broomfield

This is a community partnership program for all interested Broomfield residents.  The program focuses on healthy lifestyles and the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition. Broomfield Tobacco Education and Prevention Program

Tobacco use is the #1 cause of death in the US. Over 4,000 people die in Colorado from smoking related illnesses each year. Tobacco claims more lives than drugs, alcohol, firearms and motor vehicle accidents combined.  Smoking and secondhand smoke contributes to heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, and is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke.
