The Public Health and
Environment Division's Environmental Health Services
and Nursing Programs work collaboratively in the surveillance, prevention, and control of diseases
that have the potential of infecting a large number of citizens.
The Public Health and Environment Division performs
the following functions related to disease surveillance, prevention and control:
Monitor, investigate and control the causes of
epidemic and communicable diseases affecting the public health in
Broomfield.
These diseases include but
are not limited to:
influenza
and other respiratory diseases, enteric diseases, food borne illness,
invasive bacterial diseases, waterborne diseases,
zoonotic (animal-related) diseases, and diseases related to
childcare.
Conduct environmental health monitoring,
surveillance and research in Broomfield and offer environmental health
education to health professionals, students and the public.
Provide immunizations to the public to prevent
disease through the division's Immunization
program.
Prevent food-borne illnesses by inspecting and
ensuring code compliance by
retail food establishments, child care and
school cafeterias.
