Food Protection Program

Broomfield HHS' Food Protection Program enforces the requirements of the Colorado Food Protection Act in Broomfield by:

  • Ensuring that food prepared, sold, or served in retail food establishments meets health standards;

  • Maximizing public health protection;

  • Identifying hazards and potential sources of contamination and taking measures to prevent, reduce, or eliminate the physical, chemical, or biological agents in food prepared, sold, or served in retail food establishments; and

  • Improving the sanitary condition of all retail food establishments, reducing food-borne illness outbreaks, and controlling the spread of food-borne disease from retail food establishments.

Environmental Health Services:

  • Inspects restaurants and grocery stores, performs change of ownership inspections and conducts plan reviews.

  • Conducts investigations of complaints.

  • Provides food worker education and training.

  • Provides technical assistance for regulatory compliance and food safety issues.

  • Performs food-borne illness investigations.

  • Provides public information on alerts involving food product recalls.

  • Inspects grocery stores to insure removal and disposal of recalled products.
