What is LiveWell Broomfield?

Broomfield Health and Human Services works in partnership with LiveWell Colorado, a statewide initiative aimed at reducing overweight and obesity rates and related chronic diseases in Colorado. LiveWell Colorado provides significant grant funds to Broomfield to promote equal opportunities for healthy eating and active living through policies, programs and environmental change. The primary goal of LiveWell Broomfield is to improve the eating habits and physical activity of all members of the community. 

LiveWell Broomfield strengthens individual knowledge and skills, promotes community education, fosters coalitions and networks, influences policy and community change while educating providers and assisting to change organizational practices and environments. Some of the key initiatives of LiveWell Broomfield include:

  • Partnering with schools and childcares to increase health awareness and promote physical activity and nutrition among children of all ages;
  • Working with local employers and within the City and County of Broomfield to promote workplace wellness;
  • Collaborating with various City and County departments and community organizations to develop strategies for improving the walkability of Broomfield and to increase access to local recreational facilities for all residents;
  • Increasing community awareness of the importance of healthy eating and active living in the prevention of childhood obesity;
  • Providing outreach efforts to offer nutrition education for Broomfield's low-income and under-served populations, such as the new Paso A Paso (Step by Step) program that will be implemented this year to provide education and resources in English and Spanish to promote physical activity and healthy eating among low-income Latina women in the community;
  • Promoting awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding; and
  • Partnering with America on the Move to provide programs that promote healthy lifestyles and the benefits of exercise and proper nutrition, such as the recent Get Fit Stay Fit Challenge conducted early in the year.
