The Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition (COPAN) Smart Meal program aims to make consumers and restaurants alike more aware and more supportive of healthful menu items. Healthy eating contributes to an overall sense of well-being, and the LiveWell Broomfield is teaming up with restaurants in the area to emphasize menu items that offer healthier choices. Restaurants can showcase those entrees that are lower in fat, calories, and sodium and include components such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables by highlighting them with the Smart Meal Seal. Promotional materials will educate consumers about what the Smart Meal Seal signifies when seen on a menu. COPAN recently launched the Smart Meal Web site, www.smartmealcolorado.com, to serve as a consumer communication tool as well as a training site for Smart Meal restaurants and other implementing organizations. Currently, participating restaurants and eating establishments in Colorado offer 1,630 Smart Meal menu choices each day to their customers. In Broomfield, you will find the Smart Meal program at the Egg and I, McDonald’s, Qdoba and our newest addition Flatrions Chick-fil-A. By looking for the Smart Meal Seal, customers will know they are making a healthier choice when eating out. To participate in the Smart Meal program, please contact Marie Rutherford at (720) 887.2217 or mrutherford@broomfield.org. Additional Resources: | ||||||
