Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Over 4,600 people in Colorado die each year from smoking related illnesses. Tobacco claims more lives than drugs, alcohol, firearms, and motor vehicle accidents combined. Smoking and secondhand smoke contribute to heart disease, lung cancer, emphysema, and are major risk factors for coronary heart disease and stroke. Community Programs to Prevent and Reduce Tobacco Use The Broomfield Tobacco Education and Prevention Program is part of the state's comprehensive plan to reduce disease, disability, and death related to tobacco use. To find out more about the following Broomfield programs, please click on the links provided. Smoking Cessation Study for Young Adults Want to stop smoking? Are you between 18 and 30 years old? The YAQ (Young Adult Quit) program may be what you're looking for. The program is free and created specifically for young adults who are interested in stopping smoking. Enroll in the YAQ program to receive free smoking cessation materials and you may be eligible for 2 weeks of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (i.e., the nicotine patch).
