GED - Preparation/Testing Information

What is the GED?

The General Education Development Certificate (GED) offers individuals who did not finish high school the opportunity to earn high school credentials.  More than 8,000 adults take GED tests each year.  Over 90 percent of US employers and colleges accept the GED in place of a traditional diploma.

The GED requires a student to complete a battery of five (5) tests:

●  Science

●  Social Studies

●  Math - Two (2) parts

●  Language Arts/Reading

●  Language Arts/Writing and
    Essay

What are the Colorado state requirements for taking the GED?

You MUST be a Colorado resident, with a Colorado mailing address and present a valid picture ID at the time of testing.
You also must be at least 17 years of age and never been awarded a high school diploma or Equivalency Diploma.

Getting your GED certificate can help you to:

Increase your earnings potential.  GED holders make an average of $7,000 more per year than those without a GED or high school diploma.

Go to College.  GED graduates accomplish as much in college and technical training as traditional high school students.  For admission purposes most colleges and universities accept GED scores in place of a completed high school transcript.

Build your Career.  Most employers accept the GED when making decisions about hiring or promotions.
