Some Resources for Learning to Knit:

Teach yourself with videos: on knittinghelp.com, or on YouTube.

Stitch ‘n Bitch is a good first book. Once you get the basics, there are books of patterns, books on techniques, stitch "dictionaries", and everything else under the sun.

Finding patterns:

knitty.com

knittingpatterncentral.com

knittingonthenet.com

Knitting blogs:

Yarnharlot.com

wendyknits.net

masondixonknitting.com

A knitting website:

www.ravelry.com (database of patterns, projects completed by others, and yarn, with forums for help.  Record and detail your own projects.  Very searchable!
