Enlightenment Journeys ~ Michael Franklin, Thursday, April 1, 7 p.m. Free. "Art As Yoga" Essentially, yoga is a set of ethnical and moral practices that help the practioner to join together a spiritual view of finite embodied experience with an expansive view of infinite consciousness. Art, as an aesthetic awareness practice, is a way to inquire into this equation through the formation and transformation of physical art materials, which allow hidden subtle aspects of ourselves and our environment to be seen and contemplated. In essence, the spiritual practices of art and yoga guide us to take the inward journey as far as we wish to travel. Michael Franklin, ATR-BC, director of the Graduate Art Therapy Program at the Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, will present Art as Yoga. Since 1981 Michael has both practiced and taught art therapy in various academic and clinical settings. He has lectured internationally and has also published a wide range of research contributions to the field in the areas of aesthetics, self esteem, AIDs iconography, interpretive strategies, and contemplative approaches to art therapy.
