About:
Graphic Novels: The term graphic novel is used in the
library industry, most commonly, to indicate stories written and illustrated in
comic book style, but which, typically, are published in a longer, sturdier
format. They can be a collection of previously published comic books that
present one story. They can be original publications using traditional comic
book characters. They can be original publications that have nothing to do with
comics. Comic strip collections are usually included in graphic novel
collections as well."
Anime: is the Japanese term for animation. Anime can be any animation
created in Japan for television, movies, or video.
Manga: are comic books in Japanese. Manga doesn't refer to subject
matter or content, rather it refers to the format of the book. However, there is
a distinctive artistic style to most manga:
Manga characters tend to have very large eyes in
proportion to the rest of their faces.
The panels in manga are less standard than in
traditional American comics.
Backgrounds can be more detailed than the characters.
The blurring of the background when a character moves quickly is a manga
hallmark.
Manga is originally written and read from right to left.
