So You Want to Be a Wizard? by Diane Duane, YA Dua. Thirteen-year-old Nita, tormented by a gang of bullies because she won't fight back, finds the help she needs in a library book on wizardry which guides her into another dimension.

Seven-Day Magic by Edward Eager, J Eag. It was just after Fredericka wished on the book for an adventure with wizards and witches that the green-eyed dragon flew over. Low enough to scoop up Fredericka and disappear in a puff of purple smoke. Obviously- her siblings decided- this was a book that had to be handled with care.

Daughters of the Moon Series by Lynne Ewing, YA Ewi. Vanessa, who has always had the special power to become invisible, discovers that she and her best friend Catty, a time-traveler, are goddesses of the moon who must fight together to overcome the evil Atrox.

Pure Dead Magic by Debi Gliori, YA Gli. When their father is kidnapped and danger looms, the Strega-Borgia children, their mysterious new nanny, and a giant tarantula use magic and actual trips through the Internet to bring peace to their Scottish castle.

Pure Dead Wicked by Debi Gliori, YA Gli. The Strega-Borgia children accidentally create 500 clones of themselves at the same time that the roof on their Scottish castle falls in, attracting evil contractors who want their home.

The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotsen, J Ibb. Odge Gribble, a young hag, accompanies an old wizard, a gentle fey, and a giant ogre on their mission through a magical tunnel from their Island to London to rescue their King and Queen's son who had been stolen as an infant.

Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotsen, J Ibb. Deciding that he must sire a child to carry on his tradition of Loathing Light and Blighting the Beautiful, the Great Wizard Arriman announces a competition among the witches of Todcaster, one of whom will marry him.

Redwall by Brian Jacques, YA Jac.
