Media Release March 10, 2003 Media Contacts: Rosann Doran Broomfield has plan to address 2003 West Nile VirusBroomfield and Colorado Mosquito Control have joined to plan for another summer of West Nile Virus. Broomfield’s Public Health Division, Public Works, and Code Enforcement have been collaborating on a plan to provide a comprehensive response for Broomfield’s citizens this summer. Each division is responsible for key components to the program, but will work with all involved agencies as needed to provide a comprehensive response to West Nile Virus for Broomfield. Public Health will be responsible for education, providing information and responding to questions from Broomfield residents. Information brochures will be available at a number of public and community sites. Broomfield’s Public Health Division will share West Nile Virus information that it receives from the state with the community and city and county departments. Colorado Mosquito Control will trap mosquitoes for testing and spray with insecticide those areas most susceptible to mosquito breeding. New techniques and methods of trapping are currently being investigated for cost and effectiveness. The Police Department’s Code Enforcement staff will respond to citizen calls and gather potential specimens to be submitted to the state lab.
