HHS recruits volunteer health professionals for emergency response

Broomfield Health and Human Services (HHS) has invited nurses in Broomfield to volunteer with the department as part of a statewide effort to recruit and train volunteer health professionals to assist in the event of an emergency.

Nurses who received the invitation are part of the Colorado Nurse Alert System, and have been previously been identified as those who might assist in response efforts. Nurses and other health professionals may be needed at the local level to prepare for and respond to a public health emergency such as a natural disaster, an act of war or bio terrorism.

Volunteer nurses would help in emergency response, logistical planning, conducting mass immunization clinics, administering care to victims or other medical or non-medical duties.

Broomfield’s Public Health Division will provide training and information for volunteer nurses on topics such as disaster services, first aid, bio terrorism, smallpox, and other topics as needed. For further information and to volunteer, contact the public health division at 720-887-2220 or Carol McDonald at 720-887-2247.
