Media Release June 23, 2003 Media Contact: Rosann Doran Fireworks! Bigger and better, this year *(*weather permitting)Broomfield residents are invited to plan now to join friends and neighbors in Community Park on Friday, July 4 for Broomfield’s annual Great American Picnic beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the always-anticipated fireworks celebration at dusk. This year’s fireworks display will be spectacular. Over 160 fireworks carried over from the 2002 display will be exploded, along with 375 ordered for this year. This will create a fireworks display lasting upwards of 40 minutes, according to Bob Prince, director of recreation services for Broomfield. Residents are reminded, however, that weather conditions always play a role in this annual event. If fire and police officials determine that continuing the fireworks display impacts the safety of individuals and property in the area, the fireworks could be delayed or stopped. Strong winds in 2002 stopped the fireworks show prematurely. Should that happen this year, announcements will be made over the public address system in the staging area, Community Park ball field lights will come on, and various staff members will be dispersed through the crowd to notify viewers of the status of the display. | ||||||||||
