HHS invites residents to build foundations for kids at annual Childcare Summit

Broomfield’s Health and Human Services Department continues its Celebrate Children efforts with "Building Foundations," the third annual Childcare Summit.

This year’s summit is Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Broomfield Senior Center, Lakeshore Room, 280 Lamar Street in Broomfield.

Those attending will look at childcare in the community and hear presenters cover a broad spectrum of disciplines. They will learn about resources and agencies available to parents, in-home and center-based care providers, and others interested in addressing childcare in Broomfield.

The daylong event will feature information aimed at providing support and training for childcare providers, with the goal of building collaborative partnerships that meet childcare needs in Broomfield.

The summit is free to Broomfield residents and to providers who contract with Broomfield for CCCAP. Other participants will be charged a $25 registration fee.

The day begins at 7:30 with a continental breakfast and welcome from Karen Beye, Director of the Health and Human Services Department in Broomfield. A session from 8 to 9 a.m. will be an interactive session around the importance of movement in children to help facilitate appropriate fine and gross motor skills.

Information on how providers can take care of themselves will follow the first session. Important information on child safety seats and early identification of developmental problems is another highlighted session.

Afternoon sessions include "Planning A Responsive Curriculum," "Building communication Partnership's With Children," and "Making Reading Fun."

Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 17. To register, or for more information, call the Health and Human Services Department at 720-887-2201.
