County seeks comment for grant funds Broomfield’s Health and Human Services (HHS) Department will apply soon for Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funds for the period March 1, 2005 through Feb. 28, 2006. Public comment is required as part of the application process. Copies of the proposed plan will be available for public comment on Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the HHS Building, 6 Garden Center. The CSBG funds are made available to HHS entities to provide services for low-income families and children. Grantees must demonstrate that the community has recipients who are below 125 percent of the federal poverty level. Funds are distributed through federal and state HHS entities. These dollars fund services and activities that will have a measurable and potentially major impact on causes of poverty in Broomfield. Although funding allocations have not been finalized, HHS anticipates receiving $19,000 for the upcoming funding cycle. HHS is recommending that two service areas be funded with the grant: Emergency Services/Food Bank Subcontract with Community Food Share ($16,920) and Emergency Services/General Financial Assistance through HHS ($2,699). Last year, Broomfield HHS received CSBG funds for emergency services for food and housing. For more information or to comment, contact Jan Hamilton at 720-887-2279. | ||||||||||
