Broomfield, Xcel collaborate to expedite power line replacement

Xcel Energy and Broomfield are working together to expedite the replacement of an underground power line that has experienced four power outages in Broomfield recently. The work will take place this weekend along Main Street.

Xcel Energy plans to replace the line and will work around the clock until the project is complete. Work is scheduled to start Thursday afternoon (July 14) with utility locates, equipment and cable assemblage, and notice to adjacent homeowners.

The anticipated completion is Monday, July 18.

Because of the 24-hour schedule, residents along Main Street may experience some inconvenience with construction activity noise. Xcel Energy will be doing the loudest work during daylight hours as much as possible to minimize any inconvenience.

Some sporadic and short-lived power outages may also occur. Residents experiencing outages are urged to call Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-4999 to report the outage.

Crews will work south from 10th Avenue to Third Avenue, and then from Third to First Avenue. The work will affect the landscaped area between the street and
the sidewalk. Northbound traffic will be shifted into the orange striped turn lanes in order to allow work space for crews.

Any disturbed landscaping will be restored as the construction progresses. Parks maintenance crews are prepared to insure proper irrigation is in place for the repaired landscaping.

Residents can help keep homes cool and minimize their energy bills by raising the level on air conditioners while they are at home and increasing it another five to 10 degrees when not at home, unless health problems require the lower temperature. Shades can also be kept closed during peak heating hours of 2 to 7 p.m.
