Broomfield sets National Night Out picnic City and County of Broomfield departments will join together with the North Metro Fire District and the National Guard to bring fun and information to residents on Tuesday, Aug. 2 during the National Night Out celebration beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year’s theme for Broomfield’s annual event is “Picnic in the Park.” Residents are invited to bring a picnic supper and enjoy live music on the lawn at the Broomfield County Commons Park. Free ice cream and drawings for prizes are also planned.
The park is located between Lowell and Sheridan boulevards, south of 136th Avenue and north of Midway Boulevard. Entrance on the east side is at 132nd and residents can travel around the Paul Derda Recreation Center to the park on the west. From the west, residents can enter at 13th Avenue and Sheridan.
Police and fire vehicles will be on display, along with a dump truck, snow plow and bucket truck from the Public Works Department for the “Touch a Truck” activity.
Demonstrations are also on tap by police officers showing their motorcycle and bike patrols, the K-9 unit and the SWAT team.
Information on all-hazards preparedness will also be available, covering summer and winter storms, 9-1-1 emergency, personal safety, home security and child safety.
The National Guard will have a drug awareness display and a Hummer to look at.
The event is sponsored by the Broomfield Police Department. Attendees are asked to leave pets at home.
