The City and County of Broomfield’s
citizen assistants recently earned designation by the U.S.
Department of State to accept passport applications. This new service,
inaugurated in Broomfield this week (April 3), is another
step in Broomfield’s commitment to provide centralized services to
citizens.
The citizen assistants are located at the Community
Assistance Center in the lobby of the City and County Building, 1
DesCombes Drive. The new hours for passport applications
are Monday through Friday, 8 to 11 a.m.
To apply for a passport, residents should bring:
Personal identification – driver’s license,
military ID, student ID, work ID, or foreign passport.
Citizenship evidence – a state-issued birth
certificate, naturalization papers, an adoption certificate or previous
U.S. passport.
Two passport photographs – both must
measure two inches square, with white or off-white background preferred.
The photos must be identical and show the full face of the applicant.
The photos must have been taken within the last six months, and printed
on photographic paper. No photographs will be accepted with uniforms or
items resembling uniforms of any kind, or with dark glasses, hats or
other headgear that obscures the hair or hairline. Headgear worn daily
for religious purposes is acceptable as long as the applicant provides a
signed statement to that effect.
Passport fees are payable by check
or money order to U.S. Department of State. The fee for anyone 16 or
older is $67. The fee for those under 16 is $52. An additional execution
fee payable to the City and County of Broomfield is also required. It is
$30 and can be paid by check, cash, money order or credit card.
Applicants will receive passports within six weeks
from the date they are submitted. To expedite a passport, applicants can
pay an additional fee of $60, and the passport should be received
within two weeks.
Adult passports are valid for ten years. Minor
passports are valid for five years.
For a passport for a child under age 14, both
parents or legal guardians must appear with the child to sign the
application. If the second parent is not available to sign, the
appearing parent must present evidence of sole legal custody of the
child or a notarized written consent of the other parent for the
issuance of the passport.
The staff at the City and County of Broomfield are excited to offer this
new service to the community. For further information, call the
