videos of past council meetings Broomfield is now offering streamed videos of past City Council meetings on its Web site at www.broomfield.org/council/councilagendas.shtml . Direction by the City Council last February cleared the way for this new public education offering. It allows viewers to see the entire meeting, or to click on an agenda item and select video of a specific portion of the meeting. Currently, video is archived for the Feb. 28 and March 21, 2006, meetings. Future meetings should be available 48 to 72 hours after the council meeting. When Web visitors click on the camera icon at www.broomfield.org/council/councilagendas.shtml , a player on the computer desktop opens with controls to play, pause, stop and increase the video screen size. Viewers need Windows Media Player for Windows or Mac installed on their computers. There is a link for a free download of the viewer on the streaming video page on the Broomfield Web site. When viewers connect to the stream, the hosting company can automatically determine the connection speed needed, from dial-up modem to the faster cable and DSL broadband speeds. A stream to match the viewer’s computer connection is then automatically sent. Streaming video of the past City Council meetings will be online for approximately three months from the meeting date. The City and County of Broomfield contracted with BroadbandVideo of Centennial, Colo., to do the encoding, indexing and hosting of the council meeting videos. The company also serves Littleton, Thornton and Aurora, along with businesses like the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets. This effort is an addition to the “toolbox” Broomfield is compiling that gives residents a way to get information about their city. It joins the council agendas and memo packets as well as actions taken and minutes of each regular meeting that can also be found on the Web site. Also part of the toolbox is information on KCCB Channel 8 for Comcast cable customers, the Broomfield on the Inside magazine published twice each year, NewsNotes: for your info bulletins that arrive with the city’s water bills, and, during regular business hours, from the general information phone number - 303.438.6390, or by emailing info@broomfield.org with questions. | ||||||||
