Testing, preparation shows
Broomfield ready for 2006 elections
Broomfield County Clerk Russ
Ragsdale reports that preparations and testing for this
year’s elections are proceeding without a glitch.
The logic and accuracy test
was performed and passed on July 8. This procedure is used
to certify the accuracy of the ballot counting system. The
testing is conducted by the Clerk and Recorder along with
the chairpersons from the Broomfield Democratic and
Republican parties.
Testing involved counting
ballots through both the optical scan ballot tabulators and
the new direct recording electronic (DRE) equipment.
On June 23, over 26,000
notifications were mailed to Broomfield voters informing
them of important election dates, vote center locations, and
providing them with an absentee ballot application. As of
July 12, over 3,300 absentee ballot applications had been
returned and processed. A 24-hour turnaround for
registration and absentee transactions has been maintained.
Preparations continue for the seven vote centers to be
deployed for this year’s elections. Signs have been
produced, and planning for delivering, setting up and
retrieving election equipment has been finalized. The Police
Department is on board with traffic control and security,
and computer system accessibility on Election Day has been
assured.
“Elections are a great example of how well City and County
departments work together," Ragsdale said.
