Broomfield
Environmental Services offers
tips, reminders for fall
Fall is in the air. The days are getting shorter
and the nights are getting cooler. It’s time to
harden off the lawn and let it go dormant, and time
to put the garden to bed for the winter. Lawn
watering can be cut back gradually, with a goal of
no outdoor watering after October 31. Winter tree
watering may continue monthly as needed.
Gather up all of the unused lawn and garden
chemicals, and any other nasty stuff in the garage
or shed, because the fall Household Hazardous Waste
Drop-off Day is coming up Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 at
the Norman Smith Service Center. There are 250
appointments available to Broomfield residents by
calling
303-438-6336.
Broomfield’s Environmental Services, Stormwater,
Emergency Management, and Public Health divisions
and North Metro Fire Department staffs are teaming
up to keep Broomfield homes, neighborhoods and
waterways free of harmful chemicals providing this
local drop-off day. Additional advertising will be
provided on Channel 8, the city Web site and the
Broomfield Enterprise.
Don’t forget that the Fleet Division recycles waste
motor oil all year long. Waste oil can be dropped
off year-round at the Norman Smith Service Center,
3001 W. 124th Ave. The waste
oil-drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday
through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon the first
Saturday of every month (unless it’s a holiday
week-end, then it’s the second Saturday)!
