During
election time, Broomfield reminds residents that the
Broomfield Municipal Code prohibits signs in public
parks and rights-of-way.
Within Broomfield,
political signs:
Cannot be located
on public rights-of-way or any public property
including parks, trails, open spaces, sidewalks,
streets,
medians, or the area between street
and sidewalk in places where sidewalks are
detached from the curb;
Cannot be on
private property without the consent of the owner;
Are not allowed between a fence and the street
since this is public right of way;
Must be behind the sidewalk on private property;
Must be at least 4 feet behind the curb if no
sidewalk or fence exists;
Must be at least 6 feet from the edge of asphalt
if no walk, curb, or fence exists;
May not extend above a fence if located on a
fence;
Cannot exceed 32 square feet per face and seven
feet in height in business and industrial areas;
Cannot exceed 16
square feet per face and seven feet in height in
residential areas; and
must
be removed within seven days after the election.
The
“public right-of-way” is generally the edge of the
sidewalk at a front lot line or side lot line. If
there is no sidewalk, the public right-of-way is
four feet from the outside edge of a concrete curb,
or if there is no curb, six feet from the edge of
the asphalt pavement.
Routine enforcement of the code includes the removal
of signs from the right-of-way by Code Compliance
staff.
To reach Code Compliance, call 303.464.5551 and
leave a message for more information or if you have
concerns about political sign placement. If you
leave your name and phone number, your call will be
returned within one business day.
