Broomfield continues snow, ice control operations

Broomfield snow and ice control crews returned to normal work schedules beginning Tuesday, Jan. 2.  City crews and sub-contractors for Broomfield worked around the clock during and immediately after each of the snow storms that occurred during the last two weeks.

At least one pass has been made through residential streets. Crews will continue their snow and ice control work, but work hours and operations have been scaled back. The primary focus for street crews now will be on intersections where ice has built up in the drainage pans, where snow was piled on sidewalks and other areas that need special attention.

Broomfield staff appreciates that the ice build-up on the streets has created difficult driving conditions.  These ice build-ups are extremely difficult to remove and are not planned to be addressed unless they become a hazard.

The parks crews have plowed most of the sidewalks along major streets and the walks that are used for school access. Once these walks are completed, they will start plowing the concrete walks that make up the trail system in the open space areas. Sidewalk and trail users are encouraged to use caution while traveling on these paths since there may be icy spots.

The city has also dispatched its pothole crew to fill large and problematic potholes that were created by the recent snowstorm and the subsequent snow and ice control efforts.

Residents are encouraged to call the "pot hole hotline" at (303)469-3301, extension 6604, to report pot holes.

Residents may also call (303) 438-6334 to request additional snow and ice control assistance in their areas. The public is asked to reserve the use of 9-1-1 and police dispatch for emergencies only.

Broomfield appreciates residents’ patience during these last two weeks as crews worked to keep streets passable.
