Broomfield seeks
comment for grant funds
Broomfield’s Health
and Human Services (HHS)
Department will apply soon for Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)
funds for the period of March 1,
2007 through February 28, 2008. Public comment is required as part of
the application process.
Copies of the
proposed plan will be available for public comment on Monday, Jan. 22,
2007, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the HHS
Building, 6 Garden Center in Broomfield.
Federal CSBG funds
are made available to organizations to provide services for low-income
families and children. Grantees must demonstrate that the community has
recipients who are below 125 percent of the federal poverty level. CSBG
funds for Colorado are distributed through the State Department of Local
Affairs Community Services Block Grant Program Office.
These dollars fund
services and activities that will have a measurable and potentially
major impact on causes of poverty in Broomfield.
Although funding
allocations have not been finalized, HHS anticipates receiving
approximately $19,000 for the upcoming funding cycle, the same amount
received for the current year. HHS
is recommending that two service areas be funded with the grant:
Emergency Services/Food Bank Subcontract with Community Food Share
($16,920) and Emergency Services/General Financial Assistance.
Broomfield HHS
has received CSBG funds for emergency services (food and housing) since
2002.
