February is National Heart
Month
HHS presents the ‘heart’
truth
From
the Broomfield Public Health Division
HHS, in collaboration
with other Broomfield departments, hopes to increase the awareness of Heart
Disease throughout the month of February.
Public Health staff
will address each of the risk factors in the
Enterprise
during February, and will offer a variety of opportunities throughout the
month to learn more.
In February,
heart-health information and informational displays will be located throughout
the city, and a free seminar entitled “Nutrition and Health: Get to the Heart
of the Matter” is scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 13, from noon to 1 p.m.
A video will be shown on
Channel 8 for Comcast customers entitled “The Heart Truth.” It features women
affected by heart disease. Pamphlets, other information and giveaways will
also be part of the February effort.
Information and
giveaways are planned for Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the entrance of the library
between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
That same day is
Valentines Day, and HHS encourages all who live, work, learn and play in
Broomfield to wear red to help spread a message of preventing heart disease to
raise awareness and empower people to take steps for a healthy heart.
A “Healthy Hearts”
program, on Wednesdays, Feb. 7 and 21, will offer heart-healthy lunches and
nutrition information. They begin at noon at the Broomfield
Senior
Center, 280 Lamar St. Please call 303.464.5526 for reservations.
Each year, nearly 930,000 Americans die of
cardiovascular diseases like heart disease and stroke.
Much of the burden of heart disease and
stroke could be eliminated by reducing the major risk factors: high blood
pressure, high blood cholesterol, tobacco use, diabetes, physical inactivity,
and poor nutrition.
