Broomfield Workforce Center ready to stage
Youth Career/Job Fair
comes to On Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 3 to 6 p.m., the Broomfield Workforce Center’s annual Youth Career/Job Fair, will connect young people ages 15 to 21 with a wide variety of job opportunities. Whether the youth are ready to line up a summer job or simply want to explore options, employers at the event will be interested in talking with them. The event is free and the Broomfield Event Center is also offering free parking for this event. The Event Center is located at 11450 Broomfield Lane. Exit U.S. 36 at Wadsworth/Colorado 121, and go south to Uptown Avenue. Turn left on Uptown Avenue to parking and the Event Center. “Keep in mind that the recruiters you’ll be talking with will be closely screening you,” advises Celia Hardin of the Broomfield Workforce Center. “So it’s important to make a good first impression. Be personable and ready to summarize your skills. The goal is to let employers know what you have to offer. If you’re prepared, you could walk out of the Broomfield Event Center on February 20 with a great part time or full time job opportunity for this summer.” It may surprise some students to know that it’s not too early to start making plans for a part-time job. Many employers are already putting their summer workforce into place. This Youth Fair, and others like it that will be staged across the Metro area, is designed to give young people a head-start in finding work for the spring and summer seasons. Employers use the fairs as a way to meet the best applicants long before final exams are getting under way in high schools and universities across Colorado. “A job is an important way for students to earn extra spending money, boost their résumé and garner valuable work experience while out of school,” Celia Hardin says. “But finding a good job can be a job in itself. This Youth Career/Job Fair is designed to connect Colorado youth ages 15 to 21 with great employers who are youth-friendly and have jobs to fill. There will also be career and educational resources at the fair for young people to explore their future opportunities. Over 50 great businesses have already committed to participate.” Youth Fairs are sponsored by state and county run employment and training offices called Workforce Centers and by the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt, a Colorado program that has been matching young people’s skills and interests with employment opportunities for twenty six years. Last year, the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt assisted over 30,000 young people in finding summer jobs. More Youth Fairs are being planned for March. At each youth fair, you’ll find a diverse selection of jobs with wages ranging from minimum wage to more than $10.00 per hour.
