Plan ahead for Great American Smokeout The Great American Smokeout is two weeks away, on Thursday, Nov. 15, and Public Health officials are encouraging smokers who want to quit on that day to get ready now. Planning ahead is the secret to success when quitting any form of nicotine. Consider these important steps when preparing to quit tobacco for the Great American Smokeout: § Step 1: Think about why you want to quit and write those reasons down. Refer to this list when you are feeling a craving for tobacco. § Step 2: Talk to your primary care provider about the addictive nature of nicotine, and if a drug therapy is right for you. § Step 3: Call the Colorado QuitLine (800 QUIT NOW) to speak to a trained coach, receive information on drug therapies, request self-help quitting materials, and receive free nicotine replacement patches. Or, log on to www.coquitline.org and www.quitdoingit.com for expert advice, quitting tips, and peer support. § Step 4: Call the Broomfield Tobacco Program at 720.887.2276 to obtain a free Quit Kit and the Broomfield/Boulder County Quit Smoking Guide. § Step 5: Tell your friends, family members and co-workers about your desire to quit smoking on the Great American Smokeout. Step 6: Be tobacco-free on Thursday, Nov. 15!
