For publication November 14:

Great American Smokeout is tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the Great American Smokeout!  Begin your smoke-free life today.  It is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.  Not only are you adding years to your life, you are protecting the health of those around you by limiting their exposure to secondhand smoke.

Be prepared for withdrawal symptoms.  Tiredness, headache, nervousness, lack of concentration, irritability, and cravings are possible uncomfortable side effects of withdrawal from nicotine.  Exercise, drink lots of water, and talk to friends, family members, and coworkers to help deal with these side effects of quitting.

For additional support:

Call the Colorado QuitLine (800 QUIT NOW) to speak to a trained coach, receive information on drug therapies, request self-help quitting materials, and receive FREE nicotine replacement patches.

Log on to the Colorado QuitLine www.coquitline.org or www.quitdoingit.com for expert advice, quitting tips, and peer support.

Call the Broomfield Tobacco Program at 720-887-2276 to obtain a FREE Quit Kit and the Broomfield/Boulder County Quit Smoking Guide.

Congratulations on your decision to be tobacco-free…or for even thinking about it!
