Media Release October 4, 2002 Tom Schomer Public comment sought Area residents will have an opportunity to comment on the Environmental
Assessment (EA) currently underway for planned improvements to the Wadsworth
interchange at U.S. 36. A public workshop is scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at
Jeffco Airport in the Mount Evans Room in the main terminal. Attendees will be able to find out details of the project and meet one-on-one
with the project team. The meeting will be an "open house" format,
with members of the project team available to answer questions and record
comments. This workshop is the second one in the planning process. Since the last
workshop in February, Carter and Burgess, Inc. has been working in coordination
with Broomfield, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and the Colorado
Department of Transportation (CDOT) to prepare an EA for the interchange. As part of the process, a preferred alternative for design and assessment has
been developed which includes a reconstruction
The initial EA will address issues including wildlife impacts, bicycle and pedestrian connections and relocations of homes and businesses. The area contains dry cropland which provides foraging and nesting habitat for various wildlife and raptors. Mitigation of impacts to wildlife will be identified as part of the EA and conducted with construction of the preferred alternative.
