First deadline nears for SBA assistance

SBA assistance is available to any business that feels it has been affected by the wildfires or the downturn in tourism. The assistance is mostly in the form of low-interest loans. The first deadline for SBA’s Physical Disaster Loan application is August 18, 2002.

The Presidential Disaster Declaration for the wildfires included 56 counties, the cities of Broomfield and Denver, the Southern Ute Reservation and the Ute Mountain Reservation. Applicants considering aid from the Small Business Administration (SBA) should register immediately with FEMA's 1.800.621.3362 number.

Aid which may be available through the SBA is in the form of low-interest loans for eligible applicants. Individuals and businesses in most Colorado counties, including Broomfield, are eligible to apply for Physical and Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

Other eligible counties include: Adams, Alamosa, Arapahoe, Archuleta, Baca, Bent, Boulder, Broomfield and the city of Broomfield, Chaffee, Cheyenne, Clear Creek, Conejos, Costilla, Crowley, Custer, Delta, Denver and the city of Denver, Dolores, Douglas, Eagle, Elbert, El Paso, Fremont, Garfield, Gilpin, Grand, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Huerfano, Jefferson, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lake, La Plata, Las Animas, Lincoln, Mesa, Mineral, Moffat, Montezuma, Montrose, Otero, Ouray, Park, Pitkin, Pueblo, Rio Blanco, Rio Grande, Routt, Saguache, San Juan, San Miguel,

Summit, Teller, Washington and Yuma, and the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain reservations.
