Joint September 11th Remembrance Planned
The City and County of Broomfield together with the North Metro Fire Rescue
District will commemorate the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11,
2001 in a solemn ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 beginning promptly at
8:00 a.m. at the Broomfield Municipal Center Flag Courtyard at One DesCombes
Drive. All are welcome to attend.
The program will begin with a fire siren blast at the time of the collapse of
the first tower followed by one minute of silence. Two bagpipers will then play
as color guard members from the police department, fire district, and veterans
group jointly perform a flag ceremony. Remarks will follow by Mayor Stuart,
Police Chief Deland, and Fire Chief O’Hayre. A second siren blast will then take
place at 8:28 a.m., the time of the second tower collapse, and traditional
bagpipe music will accompany the completion of the flag raising ceremony. A
reception will follow to honor our public servants.
