Cable forums begin franchise renewal

Forums have been scheduled on Thursday, March 28, for residents to offer views on how Broomfield’s cable television access channel can be used.

The forums will convene at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library in three separate sessions. Interested residents are asked to attend any or all of them. At 1:00 p.m., the forum will be geared for non-profit groups, social services providers, senior groups and churches. A 3:30 p.m. session is for local government departments, health care providers, and educational institutions. A 7:00 p.m. section is for the general public and current access users.

Broomfield’s current cable TV provider is AT&T Broadband which provides cable access channel 8 to interested individuals and organizations wishing to produce and air programs about special events, meetings, activities and plans.

City officials are interested in gathering public needs and interests to helpguide them in determining the number of cable access channels needed, the kind of equipment, facilities and other support needed for making the local cable television system accessible for community purposes during the future years of a new franchise.

Public interest in the need for high-speed Internet and other broadband services will also be assessed at the forums, along with customer service issues and repair practices.
