Broomfield heads toward first general election;
clerk advises voters to watch their mailboxes
Broomfield will conduct its first general election in November as a combined
city and county. While Broomfield has no issues, questions or candidates on this
year’s ballot, Broomfield will conduct the coordinated election for those
entities placing items on the ballot Nov. 5.
Broomfield Clerk and Recorder Russ Ragsdale has outlined key mailings and
deadlines for the Nov. 5 election. "We’d like to alert voters so they
will watch their mailboxes for the required information," he said.
According to Ragsdale, TABOR notices for local issues will be mailed on
Friday, Sept. 27. Only Broomfield voters residing in the Boulder Valley or St.
Vrain school districts will be receiving these notices. Voters outside these two
districts will not have any local TABOR related issues on their ballots.
In addition, Ragsdale announced that voters who submitted an application for
an absentee ballot prior to Friday, Sept. 20 should be expecting to receive
their ballot in the mail by the
end of the first week of October. Some 3,500 ballots are expected to be
mailed on Tuesday, Oct. 1, he said.
In addition, Ragsdale reminds residents that Monday, Oct. 7 is the
last day to register to vote. Residents may visit the Broomfield Municipal
Center to register anytime, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 21 is the first day of early voting. Registered voters will be
able to cast ballots in the main lobby of the Broomfield Municipal Center, One
DesCombes Dr., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Early voting will continue during
special Saturday hours on Oct. 26 and Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1.
Ragsdale said that residents wanting to find out if they are registered to
vote, where their polling place is located or who may want to see a copy of a
sample ballot specific to their address can check the elections Web site at www.ci.broomfield.co.us/election
after Sept. 30. "It’s a great place to go to find out about elections –
you can get all of that information and more," Ragsdale said.
Residents may also call 303-464-5857 for more information.
