Broomfield’s goose dogs keep geese moving - Wren and Craig are two of Broomfield’s newest employees, and they are probably two of the happiest workers around. They are Broomfield’s newly hired "goose dogs."The mostly black and white dogs are border collies purchased by Broomfield to haze flocks of geese in public parks and encourage them to migrate or find another, more remote place to land. October 4 News Briefs - Sales and Use tax seminars, Child Care Summit, October Citizens' Academy Broomfield survey reveals positive results - Results show that Broomfield enjoys top ratings from its residents in almost every category, according to a survey taken in June and July, delighting city officials. The survey, dubbed a "consumer report card for Broomfield," gave residents the chance to rate their satisfaction with Broomfield’s quality of life, amenities and local government. Nursing students to conduct youth needs assessment surveys in Broomfield - In a second research effort for Broomfield, students from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Nursing are conducting a community assessment of the needs of the Broomfield youth population. The public surveys and interviews of a pre-selected sample of community respondents will be conducted Oct. 2 - 4. Broomfield heads toward first general election; clerk advises voters to watch their mailboxes - Broomfield will conduct its first general election in November as a combined city and county. While Broomfield has no issues, questions or candidates on this year’s ballot, Broomfield will conduct the coordinated election for those entities placing items on the ballot Nov. 5. Broomfield City Council sets winter watering rules - The City Council passed new outdoor watering regulations this week for residents and businesses in Broomfield. The new rules supercede the previous, every-three-day watering schedule. Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, outdoor watering is limited to one day a week for not more than three hours on the designated day. Residential addresses ending in an odd number may water on Saturdays, and addresses ending in an even number may water on Sundays. All non-residential properties may water on Monday. No exemption permits will be issued. West Nile Virus confirmed in Colorado residents - Media reports recently have told of a Commerce City man and individuals in Weld and Prowers counties who have tested positive for the West Nile virus. John Pickle, Broomfield’s Public Health Officer, has noted that these are the first human cases of West Nile virus to be identified in Colorado.Pickle has indicated that most people who get West Nile virus won’t become ill. Most others will experience only slight symptoms. Only a very few will become seriously ill, he said. 2002 Childcare Summit will bring day of information, resources, programs to friends of children - Broomfield’s Health and Human Services Department is presenting its second annual Childcare Summit Saturday, Oct. 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Chateaux at Fox Meadows, 13600 Xavier Lane in Broomfield. Those attending the Summit will look at childcare in the community and hear presenters cover a broad spectrum of disciplines, resources and agencies available to parents, in-home and center-based care providers and related professionals interested in addressing childcare in Broomfield.
