Mark your calendar now for Broomfield’s Public Works
Week
Plans for Broomfield’s annual Public Works Week, May 20-26, 2001, are
well under way to demonstrate this year’s theme, "Working in the
Public Interest." Kathy Schnoor, Broomfield’s environmental
services superintendent, is coordinating the city’s activities.
According to Schnoor, a display will be located next week in the lobby
of the Municipal Center. All residents are invited to stop by for a look
at the work of each of the public works, geographic information systems
and engineering divisions. Pictures, maps and handouts will illustrate
each division’s role in providing services to Broomfield citizens –
safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, streets maintenance, mapping,
and more!
Class field trips to all of the city’s facilities are being offered
to Broomfield students, and water conservation kits are being distributed
to fifth grade classes in the city. Classroom slide presentations are also
available upon request.
Home water conservation kits are available free of charge to Broomfield
residents who drop by the Municipal Center to pick one up. For more
information or to schedule a tour, call Schnoor at 303-438-6363.
Public works and engineering projects are vital to the quality of life
of any community, and Public Works Week provides an opportunity to
showcase the city’s recent awards and achievements. Broomfield’s
celebration is part of a nationwide observance coordinated by the American
Public Works Association.
"The annual Public Works Week celebration is a reminder of the
many ways public works and engineering contribute to our quality of life.
During the weeklong celebration, our activities are designed to increase
public awareness of and appreciation for the public works and engineering
professions," said Dorian Brown, Director of Public Works.
