Media Release Release Date: May 6, 2002 Rosann Doran Gala festivities highlight Broomfield residents are invited to a gala celebration on Friday, May 17, from 4 to 6 p.m., to begin construction of the new recreation center. Broomfield dignitaries will be joined by youngsters in a formal groundbreaking ceremony that will officially kick off the fourteen-month project. After formal ceremonies, a myriad of activities is scheduled to whet the recreational appetites of the future center’s patrons. Activities will take place at the site, approximately 132nd Ave. and Lowell Blvd. A reprise performance by the world-famous "Stubby" is rumored, followed by various activities including hot air balloon rides, face painting, balloon animals, games for children – ring toss, fishing, inflatable foosball, and more. There will be a gymnastics demonstration, basketball contest, a fitness booth, massages, and a nature talk and information. Attendees will also be invited to participate in the "New Recreation Center Picture Project" in conjunction with area pre-schools and elementary schools. There will be prizes (including passes to the new center), refreshments, balloons and fun. Weather won’t be an issue – activities will be located in and around a tent placed on the site just for the occasion. | ||||||||||
