Open Space and Trails

If you pass by the open space at the intersection of Miramonte Boulevard and Kohl Street, you will surely notice the Discovery Trail created by Dan Probert. Dan has created an outstanding Eagle Scout project that has enhanced and transformed this open space area into an interpretive nature exhibit. Dan Probert overseeing the project

Dan Probert and his helpers

On Saturday, April 23, 2005, Dan led a large group of volunteers and fellow Boy Scouts to carry out the design that he has been working on for over a year.  Dan’s Boy Scout troop and many community volunteers came out to help with the physical labor.  Numerous trees were planted, cement was laid, and a 200-pound slab of Yule Marble was set at the site.  Dan has personally put nearly 150 hours of his time into this project.

Dan worked with Broomfield’s City Forester, Tom Wells, to develop a list of trees that will thrive at the site and provide aesthetic and educational merits. Dan met with the Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee and carried out public notice to surrounding residents before the project.
