Metzger Farm Open Space

The City and County of Broomfield and the City of Westminster worked cooperatively  to purchase the former Metzger Farm property, located at 120th Avenue and Lowell Blvd., and to develop a draft master plan for its future uses. The Broomfield-Westminster Open Space Foundation was created by the two governments to jointly manage the open space property.

An open house was held on March 25, 2009 to allow citizens to comment on the draft master plan. Approximately 40 people attended the meeting. Bill and Karen Metzger, who grew up on the farm property, also attended the meeting, which added to the rich history of the site. Read the citizens' comments.

The project was later reviewed with the Broomfield and Westminster Open Space Committees, city councils and the Broomfield-Westminster Open Space Foundation. The Master Plan was approved by City Council on March 9, 2010.

Work is now underway to develop the proposed funding plan, a phasing plan if necessary, and estimated construction schedule. A presentation will be made to the Foundation and two city councils in early summer 2010 to discuss implementation options.
