Redstem Filaree, Erodium cicutarium

Characteristics

Family: Geraniaceae (Geranium Family)

Origin: Europe and Asia

Description:

  • Winter annual, or biennial

  • State list B noxious weed species

  • Reproduces by seeds

Stems:

  • Stems spreading outward up to two feet

Flowers:

  • Pink to purple, in clusters

  • Blooms Spring through first frost

  • Fruits of the flower are 5 lobed and long beaked

Leaves:

  • Form a rosette with lacy leaves radiating out from the central tap root

  • Lobed and feather-like and slightly hair

Location:

    This weed is common worldwide.  It is considered noxious since it out competes food crops and native plants in wild ecosystems.
